Dovenby WI January 2018

The first meeting of the New Year 2018! President Nita Eubank opened the meeting, wishing everyone a happy new year. Secretary, Sheila Martin, read the minutes of the last meeting, followed by other correspondence and the monthly County Newsletter.

Nita introduced our speaker, actor Tim Barker from Silloth. The Solway-based actor, a former Nelson Thomlinson pupil, has appeared in the hit film Calendar Girls and numerous TV shows, including Coronation Street, Heartbeat, Juliet Bravo, Inspector Morse, Doctor Who and many more.

On stage he has appeared in productions of Macbeth and Twelfth Night and also in some TV commercials.

Tim has certainly led a full and interesting life as an actor. His colourful account of his travels around the world, and the prominent actors he has met, give a feeling of job satisfaction.

He actually played the character, "The Dull Man" in the Calendar Girls film (2003). I would say never a dull moment with Tim Barker!

Tim is now back in his home town of Silloth, and has set up a "Toy Soldier Museum"

Nita gave a vote of thanks for his fascinating account.

The Competition 'A programme from a play or show', was won by Joyce Thompson, with Anita Birkett in second place.
The quiz was won by Pat Harper
The raffle was won by Joyce Bowness.

Meetings are usually held at Bridekirk Dovenby School on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. More details and a programme are to be found on http://www.bridekirkparish.org.uk/wi
