Dovenby WI January 2020
President Nita Eubank welcomed and wished everyone a very Happy New Year.
A short business meeting was held before our speaker for the evening was introduced.
Leah Lister, a Qualified Driving Instructor came to speak to members on Driving Safely for Longer.
As we get a little older and less mobile, Leah had lots of advice and tips on how we can still stay safe, and enjoy our motoring.
F Fuel don't travel with only a small amount of fuel
O Oil check regularly
R Rubber; this includes our windscreen wipers as well as our tyres
E Electric; Check all lights are working and Battery age
S Screen Wash; for winter conditions to prevent freezing
Leah advised members that all drivers over the age of 70 can have a free driving assessment, and recommends that anyone who is experiencing a loss of driving confidence register with the County Council.
Leah brought a fun quiz for members to experience some of the questions that can come up on the driving theory test. The quiz was won by Anita Birkett and Sheila Martin.
Nita gave the vote of thanks for an informative and interesting evening. The competition was a copy of the highway code. First place went to Jean Moralee, and Second place to Nancy Fearon. The raffle was won by Sheila Wilkinson.
The next meeting will be held on Thursday 13th February at Bridekirk Dovenby School from 7.30 pm.
