Dovenby WI March 2017

The meeting was opened by President Nita Eubank who introduced the visitors for the evening, Flimby Male Voice Choir, musical director David Wilson, accompanist Ms M Leeming, and soloist Zoe Robertson who performs for the Maryport Operatic Society. Eight WI members from Dean and Lorton WIs were also invited.

The school hall was very full, and we had an excellent evening of music.

Flimby Male Voice Choir was founded over 120 years ago, and is still going strong making music using traditional male voice songs singing in four part harmony. Their performance was stunning, including Puccini's Nessun Dorma, Gwahoddiad, Steal Away, and many more favourite songs.

Zoe Robertson gave a tremendous performance. Her songs included songs from Les Miserables and Mama Mia. She is a talented young lady who certainly deserved her bouquet of flowers.

A vote of thanks for a marvellous evening was given by Nita. She did invite them back to sing Jerusalem.

To complete a lovely evening, the members provided a buffet, which was well received by all.

The competition, an old record was won by Jean Moralee. The many raffle prizes were won by various people - too many to name.

Meetings are usually held at Bridekirk Dovenby School on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30pm. More details and a programme are to be found on http://www.bridekirkparish.org.uk/wi
