President Nita Eubank welcomed everyone to the meeting. Secretary Shelia Martin read the minutes of the previous meeting.
Highlights of the County News were read out and members were reminded, the date for the Annual Council Meeting is Saturday April 13th 10.30. am. The venue Richard Rose Morton Academy, Wigton Road, Carlisle CA2 6LB.
The guest speaker was Dr. Brian Campbell, Chairman Mind in West Cumbria.
Brian began by pointing out that thanks to media coverage and the involvement of the Royal Family mental health awareness is now being spoken about.
He spoke about his work supporting local residents in Allerdale and Copeland suffering from mental health issues, explaining that we are all shaped by our experiences. Mental health doesn't define us and can be managed. No one should have to face mental health problems alone.
Mind in West Cumbria has various drop-ins where people are able to go to talk, access a variety of services and activities, benefit advice and counselling.
They work with families offering a support programme where mental health is an issue. Mind in West Cumbria promote the mental and physical wellbeing of local vulnerable people.
Nita thanked him for a fascinating talk, surprised by how quickly the time had gone.
The competition Eye-catching Jewellery was won by Lynda Mumberson who also won the raffle.
The quiz was won by Pat Harper.
