President Nita Eubank welcomed everyone to the meeting.
A short business meeting was held before our speakers for the evening were introduced - Fran Dryden and Anne Dunne from RDA West Cumbria Riding for the Disabled Association.
The West Cumbria Group work with Primary Schools in Cumbria. It was set up in 1980 providing its services to just one school. Over the last ten years this has increased to nine schools.
RDA is a charity organisation who do not own either stables or ponies and do not have any employees. They can often be seen at local shows and fairs raising awareness and Fundraising. Fran pointed out that volunteers are always welcome and full training is given.
Their strap line is, 'It's what you can do that counts'. They have a variety of groups, with children being chosen by their school. Children who attend the courses show an improvement in Physical Strength, Posture, Co-Ordination, Core Strength and Confidence; all in a fun environment.
Fran explained how wonderful it is to see the benefit the children get from the interaction with the ponies.
Nita gave the vote of thanks saying how much everyone had enjoyed it, and how inspirational it must be to see the difference that this makes.
The competition; a picture of a Horse or Pony was won by Evelyn Varty and second was Pat Harper, who also won the raffle.
The quiz was won by Nita Eubank.
All meetings are now cancelled until further notice.
